MINIMUM/MAXIMUM OPERATING TEMPERATURES

1) The maximum outside air temperature (OAT) for all training flights is +35 degrees Celsius. The following variables should also be considered:

a) The humidex or “feels like” temperature where available

b) The planned exercises, for example: circuits may require a lower limit than cross country

2) The minimum outside air temperature (OAT) for dual training flights is -20 degrees Celsius. The following variables should be considered:

a) The wind chill factor if applicable, considering the possibility of an off airport landing

b) Low or idle power operations must be avoided and significant attention given to engine operating temperatures and limits. When conducting simulated engine failures (dual only), rate of engine cooling must be taken into consideration via reference to the CHT indications (use of flaps with additional engine power to prevent shock cooling the engine may be required)

c) Inadequate winter clothing will require a higher minimum temperature

3) The minimum outside air temperature (OAT) for solo training flights is -15 degrees Celsius. The following variables should be considered:

a) The wind chill factor if applicable, considering the possibility of an off airport landing

b) Low or idle power operations must be avoided and significant attention given to engine operating temperatures and limits

c) Inadequate winter clothing will require a higher minimum temperature
